In Pursuit of Excellence

The Barry Sinclair Story

New Zealand cricket captain, courageous and elegant batsman, brilliant fieldsman – Barry Sinclair became a byword for professionalism in an amateur era. Only the third New Zealander to pass 1000 Test runs after Bert Sutcliffe and John Reid, Sinclair, the shortest international player of his time, showed that self-made sportspeople can make it to the very top.

In Pursuit of Excellence
– The Barry Sinclair Story traverses Sinclair’s struggles to reach Test level, the accompanying stress and worry of New Zealand captaincy, and reveals his thoughts on the game and its players of the 1950s, 60s and 70s right through to the current outstanding crop. The Barry Sinclair Story also uncovers a remarkable lifetime devotion to the sport to which he’s dedicated himself.
